Remembering Levon Helm

Ulster County Tourism is saddened by the passing of Woodstock resident and music legend, Levon Helm.

Helm frequently shared his love for the original and innovative ambiance of Ulster County. He was a true ambassador for the County. This past year, Helm spent some time with a film production crew to help create a video for Ulster County Tourism, “Levon Helm - Experience Ulster County, N.Y.”. Always generous with his time, Helm described his unique view of Ulster County including his enjoyment for the slower pace and the friendly faces that surrounded him. The video can be viewed on UlsterCountyAlive.com or at YouTube.com.

A 4-time Grammy Award winning musician and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Helm hosted the Midnight Ramble at his home and studio, “The Barn,’ in Woodstock. His many guest performers included Elvis Costello, David Rawlings, Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne, and more. It had become one of the most popular “roots” music events in the Northeast— drawing large crowds night after night, year after year.
