Blue skies, picnics, parades and, of course,
fireworks guarantee visitors the perfect country getaway this weekend. Our vibrant small towns and cities are alive with good old-fashioned fun. So grab a blanket and your picnic basket and celebrate the birth of our nation at one of these patriotic parties.
Independence Day Celebration in Saugerties (July 4th)
A Fireman’s inspection, parade, 3-legged races, blind-folded musical chairs, and a tug of war competition between local fire companies is just some of the fun you’ll have before fireworks light up the sky at dusk (for details click here)
Independence Day Celebration in Ellenville (July 4th)
Small town pride is on display at the noontime parade in the heart of the village. Spend the rest of the atfernoon hiking at Sam’s Point or exploring this quaint community before taking in the fireworks at Resnick Airport. (More info here)
Free Concert & Fireworks at Belleayre Music Festival (July 4th)
West Point Band’s Jazz Knights bring over three decades of musical excellence to the Belleayre Mountain, located in the middle of the more than 700,000 forever-wild acres comprising the Catskill Park. The show begins at 8 PM and a spectacular fireworks display follows. (To reserve free tickets click here)
Independence Day Celebration in New Paltz (July 4th)
This ever youthful community starts it’s party at the Ulster County Fairgrounds with a free concert by Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams whose influences include Hank Williams, Dylan, Bowie, Incredible String Band and early Pink Floyd. Fireworks take place after.
Independence Day Celebration Highland
(July 4th - Town of Lloyd)
If you’re looking for the simple pleasure of a community picnic and fireworks, then this is the place to be. Bring blankets and chairs to the Highland Middle School Village Field starting at 6 PM.
All American Barbeque on the Historic Kingston Waterfront
(July 5th ) Old Fashioned fun at 3 PM. Enjoy picnic food; corn on the cob; pie contests; Trolley rides; music by Hot Rod; colonial re-enactors and FIREWORKS at 10 PM!
